Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are making headlines again, this time with a series of legislative changes that supporters are hailing as “game-changers” for India, while critics warn of a deepening divide in the nation’s secular fabric.
A viral X post by user @SantaniPrashemi has sparked a firestorm of reactions, spotlighting five monumental policy shifts under Modi’s leadership that are reshaping India’s political and cultural landscape.
5 Historic Laws That Are Shaking India to Its Core!
The post, which has garnered thousands of likes and retweets, lists the revocation of Article 370, the criminalization of triple talaq, the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the construction of the Ram Mandir, and the recent passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill as landmark achievements.
Each move, tied to long-standing issues, is presented with a timeline—70 years for Article 370, 70 years for triple talaq, 64 years for CAA, 135 years for Ram Mandir, and 30 years for the Waqf Amendment—underscoring the historical weight of these changes.
The latest flashpoint is the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, passed in the Lok Sabha on April 2, 2025, with 288 votes in favor and 232 against. The bill removes Section 40 of the Waqf Act, which previously allowed any property to be declared as Waqf, and reclassifies government properties previously under Waqf control.

Proponents, including BJP supporters, celebrate it as a step toward transparency and an end to “land grabbing” in the name of Waqf. “Power of your one vote! Section 40 of the Waqf Act is dead and buried!” exclaimed X user @rishibagree, echoing the sentiment of many Modi supporters.
However, the bill has ignited fierce opposition. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called it “a weapon aimed at marginalizing Muslims and usurping their personal laws and property rights,” arguing that it violates Article 25 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to freedom of religion.
Muslim groups and opposition parties, including the Congress, have labeled the bill an attack on India’s secular democracy, with some warning that it could set a precedent for targeting other communities. “A Waqf belongs to Allah… the properties cannot be sold or used for any other purpose,” wrote X user @luckyali, reflecting the concerns of many in the Muslim community.
The other legislative changes highlighted in the post are equally polarizing. The revocation of Article 370 in 2019 ended Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, a move that Modi’s supporters argue has integrated the region more fully into India, but which critics say has eroded its autonomy.
The criminalization of triple talaq, also in 2019, was framed as a win for Muslim women’s rights, though some Muslim groups saw it as interference in their religious practices. The CAA, passed in 2019, offers citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from neighboring countries, but its exclusion of Muslims has been widely criticized as discriminatory.
The Ram Mandir, inaugurated in January 2024 after a 135-year dispute, fulfilled a long-standing BJP promise to build a temple for Lord Ram in Ayodhya, but it remains a sore point for many Muslims due to the demolition of the Babri Masjid mosque in 1992 at the same site.
The X post’s caption, “Where There’s Modi, There’s a Way,” accompanied by an image of Modi and symbols of these changes, has fueled both celebration and backlash. Supporters like @SantaniPrashemi, who wrote, “Grateful to my Ancestors for teaching me to practice my right properly.
Voted for BJP and the results they are giving are worthy,” see these moves as a triumph of cultural nationalism and governance. Others, like @kingfaheem126y, questioned the post’s author: “Do you not love our constitution?” to which @SantaniPrashemi replied, “Constitution should be equal for all now it is getting balanced.”
Political analysts see these changes as part of Modi’s broader agenda to redefine India’s identity, rooted in the BJP’s Hindu nationalist ideology. “Modi has used his terms to shift the ‘center’ of Indian politics, blending hard Hindutva with governance,” said political scientist Dr. Anjali Sharma, referencing the BJP’s focus on cultural issues like the Ram Mandir alongside economic reforms.
However, critics argue that this agenda risks alienating India’s minorities and undermining its secular foundation. “The Waqf Amendment Bill, like the CAA, is a step toward majoritarian dominance,” warned opposition leader Gaurav Gogoi during the Lok Sabha debate.
As the Waqf Amendment Bill heads to the Rajya Sabha for further discussion, the nation remains on edge. Will Modi’s “mega moves” cement his legacy as a transformative leader, as his supporters claim, or will they deepen India’s social and religious divides? One thing is certain: the debate is far from over, and the world is watching.
