The latest public beta of iOS 26—Public Beta 9—is now available, offering an early preview of Apple’s major software update ahead of a full release expected in mid-September.
This version brings refinements to the “Liquid Glass” interface, improved Messages and Phone apps, enhanced Apple Intelligence features, and updates across CarPlay, Music, Maps, and Wallet as development wraps up.
To install iOS 26 Public Beta 9 on an iPhone, first verify device compatibility (iPhone 11 and later models, including iPhone SE 2nd generation and up). Confirm a secure backup has been created via iCloud or your computer to ensure safe rollback if needed. Enroll the device at Apple’s Beta Software Program website using the same Apple ID that is signed in on the iPhone. Then open Settings → General → Software Update → Beta Updates and select “iOS 26 Public Beta.” After returning to Software Update, tap “Download and Install.” The beta download may require 8–15 GB of free space and a reliable Wi-Fi connection.
Although developer betas reached nine builds, this public beta is intended for broader testing. Users should be aware of bugs, app instability, reduced battery life, and performance quirks common in pre-release software. Use of secondary devices is recommended. Apple Intelligence features—such as real-time translations and smart Assist tools—work best on iPhones with the A17 Pro chip (iPhone 15 Pro and above).
Public Beta 9 is likely the final test release before Apple’s general rollout of iOS 26. Updating now gives access to the refreshed UI and AI enhancements ahead of the full launch. To avoid potential issues on a primary device, installation on a spare compatible iPhone is advised.
